Everything Apple will release in 2021

While Apple users were expecting to hear about new hardware releases coming this year, many were left disappointed after Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) began on June 7 and ended on June 11 without a single product announcement.

However, Apple users everywhere can stay optimistic as here is everything we expect to see between now and 2022.

iPad (9th Generation)

Not long after Apple’s 12.9-inch Retina XDR iPad Pro hit the shelves (May 21), we’re already hearing gossip about an update to the entry-level iPad and iPad mini coming later this year.

Likely slated for a release at a fall event, the redesigned 9th generation iPad may finally come with a more modern design. The new iPad will likely retain the “Home” button, but change to a much slimmer, thinner design similar to the iPad Air.

iPad mini (6th Generation)

After no updates to the iPad mini since 2019, the stale design is likely to get an upgrade in the fall of 2021. Reports from around the tech world have mixed opinions on the fate of the next iPad mini. While some expect the mini to feature a similar design to the old iPad Air with thin bezels and a home button, others are anticipating a Liquid Retina screen and Touch ID button.

The latest iteration of the iPad mini is likely to arrive alongside the 9th generation iPad mentioned above.

14-inch/16-inch MacBook Pro

Highly anticipated for announcement, news of the new MacBook Pro has yet to be released following WWDC. However, with new Apple M1 silicon chips already in a multitude of devices, we can expect to hear about redesigned MacBook Pros before the year ends. Apple will reportedly ship two options, 14 inches and 16 inches, with slimmer bezels.

The usually minimalistic Cupertino company will also finally bring back some of the things the latest Apple products have lacked, like an HDMI port, an SD card reader, more Thunderbolt ports, and MagSafe.

Rumor has it Apple will finally ditch the Macbook Pro branding from the bottom bezel and the Touch Bar will also go away.

While Mini-LED displays have been teased, it’s unlikely to be included in the 14 or 16-inch MacBook Pros as they are slated to begin production in the fourth quarter of 2021 and first quarter of 2022 respectively. The first models of the latest MacBook Pros will likely still use the same retina display, with Mini-LED backlighting models possible later in 2022.

Mac Mini

Perhaps the black sheep of Apple devices, the Mac Mini is rumored to be getting a big upgrade this year. The latest high-end Mac Mini is expected to get even smaller, with many expecting the next Mac Mini to be under an inch tall. Apple is also reportedly considering a plexiglass top, which means ditching the aluminum chassis for the first time since 2010.

According to Mark Gurman’s Bloomberg report, the Mac Mini will feature an “X” variant of the M1 chipset. According to him, this chip “will greatly outpace the performance and capabilities of the current M1 chips.” Gurman also hints that the Mac Mini’s GPU will most likely be integrated into the system on a chip, but will be a lot more powerful than the current 8-core GPU. The new chip is likely to come in either 16 or 32-core variations. These chips should include up to 64GB of memory and between 256GB and 2TB of storage.

The new Mac Mini could also get two additional Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports, for a total of 4 USB ports, along with the current two USB-A ports, ethernet, and HDMI. No SDXC card slot is expected.

29-inch iMac

With the colorful 24-inch iMac hitting shelves back in April, it’s highly likely that a new high-end model is on the way before 2022.

Although rumors are thin, we can expect an M1X or M2 chip, more RAM, and more ports.

iPhone 13

Perhaps Apple’s most popular product, the iPhone, is certain to create the biggest buzz out of Apple product launches this year — and we’ve already got a pretty good idea of what’s in store.

Purported battery capacities have already been leaked on Twitter. After the battery size decreased from the iPhone 11 to 12, it looks like Apple is ready to pack a larger battery into the iPhone 13. Leaked CAD sketches suggest smaller notches, larger camera arrays, and a slightly thicker design than the iPhone 12. Reports claim that Apple was able to shrink the notch, or small cutout usually at the top of the screen, by reducing die size by about half for VCSEL chips used in the True Depth camera. That means you’ll have more screen space and a less invasive camera notch.

Much like the iPhone 12, four different models are expected: a 5.4-inch iPhone 13 mini, a 6.1-inch iPhone 13, 6.1-inch iPhone 13 Pro, and a larger 6.7-inch iPhone 13 Pro Max. It is expected that the Ultra Wide camera on all iPhone 13 models will be improved from a 5-element f/2.4 lens to a 6-element f/1.8 lens. Sensor-shift stabilization, which is currently only available on the iPhone 12 Pro Max, is expected to be used across the iPhone 13 lineup. Finally, after years of 60Hz maximum refresh rates, it’s possible we will see a 120Hz ProMotion display in this year’s new iPhones — while still taking advantage of an OLED display.

As usual, the iPhone 13 is expected to be announced at an event in September.

Released so far this year

Apple has only released the following products so far this year:

24-inch iMac

11-inch iPad Pro

12.9-inch iPad Pro

Apple TV 4K with Siri Remote

AirTag

With only a handful of products released this year and no new hardware announced at WWDC 2021, we can expect a very busy second half of 2021 for Apple. The above products are expected to be announced soon and released before the end of the second quarter of 2022.

When Renting an iPad Makes Sense

Posted by Garret Listo | Posted in Computer | Posted on 26-12-2019

Because of its high brand awareness and technical performance, Apple iPads demand a very high price. It might not always be the economical choice to purchase one. Especially during times for shot-term use, an iPad rental might just be the more secure and better option. Haven’t put much thought into renting an iPad? Here are a few reasons on why renting an iPad can be better than purchasing.
Using an iPad

  • Events: Events are considered to be one of the most stressful parts of running a business. Strict deadlines, catering to a large and diverse crowd, and setting up the station or tent are just to name a few. iPad rentals can take away stress just by how easy they are to use, share and collect information. iPad rentals can be used for kiosks to complete event registration and execute faster check-ins. Registration, games, brochures, and surveys are just a few examples of the endless possibilities of iPad rentals. Another popular approach is to use custom registration apps in kiosks. Lastly, consider ordering iPad floor stands to engage prospective clients at your next event.

  • Presentations: Whether you are presenting a new product, giving a presentation, or conducting business meetings an iPad can help improve your presentation or keep everyone connected. You can use an iPad as a remote control for a slideshow, review your notes, or just to keep your meetings paperless in this digital age.

  • Marketing surveys: Marketing surveys have never been easier. Users can provide instant feedback, opinions, and observations. Managers can compile data and feedback instantly. The ability to analyze the data faster sparks better decision making and turns them into better products and services for end-users. With an iPad, marketing is easy to research and send survey results when out in the field.

  • Temporary contractors or employees: iPad’s are easy to use, easy to share, mobile and great for any temporary needs. If you need to hire temporary employees for an event or a special project, iPads are a great way to quickly get everyone set up and on the same page.

  • Conferences and Meetings: Conducting conferences and meetings has changed thanks to iPads. They come equipped with a number of features that allow businesses to improve engagement, interaction and promote better communication. Here are a few reasons how conferences and meetings can be supplemented by iPad rentals: Guest can remotely attend meeting rooms and info about various sessions. Organizers can get real-time feedback, perform brainstorming sessions and even take a vote. It can assist in helping attendees find their meeting rooms and information about various sessions.
  • Business Expense vs Asset Allocation: Purchasing an iPad would mean you have to treat it as an asset because all computers are classed as business assets and not an expensive. In most cases this means that employees are not able to buy an iPad with their company credit cards. On top of that any asset purchases needs to be depreciated over the lifetime of the device (typically 3 years). Where as rentals count as an expense fully within the calendar month that it was rented.

Whatever the reason you may find in renting an iPad, Rentacomputer.com can handle any of your needs.

Apple Mac Pro plans to ship in December

It’s almost here! Apple’s next-generation Mac Pro desktop is nearly here, just in time for the holidays. While an exact time frame hasn’t been given just yet, we do have some interesting information.

  • Apple’s Mac Pro will start at $5,999 for the desktop computer.
  • The base model features an 8-core XEON processor, 32GB of RAM, and an AMD Radeon 580X dedicated graphics card.
  • It comes with a 256GB SSD but can go up to 8TB of storage — the same as the new MacBook Pro.
  • Supports up to 6 streams of 8K footage.

This mind-bogglingly fast computer may cost you a lot, but it is geared towards true pros in the development, video, and audio industries. Those who are looking for more affordable, but still professional-quality, gear will be fine with a MacBook Pro, iMac Pro, or even a Mac Mini.

The Mac Pro isn’t the only thing Apple is teasing about releasing before the holiday season. To go along with their ultra-fast computer, Apple is putting out their Pro XDR Display — the best monitor Apple has ever made.

  • The monitor goes for $4,999 with a glossy finish or $5,999 for one with anti-reflective nano-coating.
  • Price is justified, as it is on par with monitors that regularly go for $30,000+.
  • It’s a 32-inch Retina 6K display.
  • Has the ability to switch between landscape and vertical.
  • Doesn’t come with a stand — to pair with one it’s $999, or a mounting adapter for walls is $199.

Both of these exciting new products are scheduled to ship in December. While you’re waiting, why not explore why your business could and should be using Macbook Pro rentals to undertake new projects, use on the go, or increase general productivity.

Integrate with existing products

Seamlessly integrating with your employees existing iPhones and iPads, your employees will be able to get more done. From answering texts from other team members and conducting FaceTime calls with clients directly from their MacBook Pro rental, you’ll never see more productivity from your team.

Like all Apple devices, the MacBook Pro allows users to download the tools they need directly from the App Store. Which means if you’ve already been using applications you’ve had to pay for, you won’t have to repurchase anything thanks to iTunes.

Better privacy and security

Most security and private Macbooks to date

Apple is preparing to launch iOS 13 for mobile devices, the latest version of its operating software, with a heavy emphasis on security and privacy. Offering users greater control of how and when their data is shared with app developers, iOS 13 promises to boost Apple’s already stellar reputation for security.

Running on macOS, the MacBook Pro has always boasted security features that allow authorized users to quickly access their machines while keeping unauthorized users out. Between the T2 Security Chip and File Vault 2, users can rest assured that their data is secure. Even if an employee misplaces their MacBook Pro rental or it is stolen, File Vault 2 encrypts the entire drive, blocking unauthorized access to their data. Is the Future of the MacBook Air Up in the Air?

Posted by rreeve | Posted in Computer, MacBook | Posted on 22-05-2017

When it was first released, the MacBook Air was an innovative device. But now everyone and their mothers are making ultra-slim laptops. The MacBook Air still has a lot going for it, but unless Apple unveils a brand new and revamped design of the MacBook Air this year, you may just want to pick up a standard MacBook instead. Consider these three things when deciding whether you want a MacBook Air rental or a MacBook rental.

UpintheAir(1)

The Death of the 11 Inch Air

Apple stopped producing 11 inch MacBook Airs last year. To understand why this fact is so terrible you first have to ask yourself, “Why do people buy the MacBook Air?”. To answer your question, people bought the MacBook Air because it was compact, lightweight, and still managed to be powerful.

But Apple discontinued the 11 Inch MacBook Air, effectively eliminating one of the three main reasons anyone would want to specifically rent or buy a MacBook Air in the first place. But only the 11 Inch MacBook Air was discontinued, meaning that Apple is still actively selling their 13 Inch MacBook Airs.

Weight of the Devices

Contrary to the device’s name, the MacBook Air is no longer the lightweight champion of MacBook devices. Maybe if Apple continued making new models of the 11-inch MacBook Air, the Air would still be the lightest MacBook but, as listed above, Apple sunk that model. However, Apple has not stopped pursuing slim and lightweight designs. The 12-inch MacBook released back in 2015 manages to be lighter than both the 11-inch MacBook Air and the 13-inch MacBook Air.

Device Capabilities

The MacBook Air and the MacBook have pretty similar hardware capabilities. The main differences between the two devices are that the MacBook Air comes equipped with better a processor, graphics card, and battery life (battery life only applies to the 13 inch model), while the MacBook is lighter weight, has better screen display (retina display) and resolution, and more flash drive storage space and RAM by default.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a device strictly on the grounds of what is currently the most lightweight and compact MacBook, get the 12-inch MacBook. If you need a better graphics card or longer battery life, get the 13-inch MacBook Air. At the moment I cannot tell if there is an objectively better device between the MacBook and the MacBook Air, but the fact that the MacBook is lighter, more compact, and almost as powerful processor and graphics card wise is somewhat concerning when thinking about the future of the MacBook Air family.

Virtual reality user / 3D render of man wearing virtual reality glasses surrounded by virtual data
It is confirmed that Apple will be doing something with Augmented Reality. Apple CEO Tim Cook repeatedly expressed his strong interest in the technology over the more isolating virtual reality over the past year. Apple acquired an AR company over a year ago so why wouldn’t Apple want to bring its own brand of mixed reality to its flagship product?

Rumors began to surface that an employee confirmed that Apple was working on a light pair of augmented reality glasses that may be announced this year. However when annalist  Lance Ulanoff spoke with Apple industry experts about plans for 2017, although Augmented Reality was high on the list of possibilities Apple AR Glasses wont find much support within Apple.

Chances are 2017 will be the year we see an Apple AR Product, it just wont be glasses. Good news for Apple that AR can be applied to any number of existing pieces of hardware and software, if you are looking to rent Apple products contact rentacomputer.com . Some speculate that their next AR product will be The iPhone 8, and an Apple Car.

Three Reasons to Upgrade to MacOS Sierra for the Holidays

Posted by rreeve | Posted in Computer, OS Sierra | Posted on 20-12-2016

MacOS Sierra released officially back in September of this year. However, if you’re still holding out on upgrading for any reason, now is a perfect time reconsider giving your MacBook a Christmas operating system upgrade! Of course, we wouldn’t just tell you to upgrade your operating system without giving you good reasons for doing so. So here are three reasons you should upgrade to MacOS Sierra if you are still running OS X El Capitan.

Couple buying Christmas gifts online with laptop

Memory Improvements

MacOS Sierra is designed for helping users to better manage their MacBooks memory. This might worry some users upon hearing, but don’t worry, OS Sierra doesn’t just delete files at random from your MacBook. Instead, OS Sierra prioritizes deleting files which have been trashed for more than 30 days and remind you to remove installation files which users will use once and never again. In addition to deleting files, MacOS Sierra can also move files that you don’t use often off of your local storage and onto cloud storage for future re-downloading.

It should be mentioned that OS Sierra gives you the option of choosing to auto-delete your trashed items after they have spent thirty days in the trash. Your new operating system will not automatically delete your trash for you, unless you open Finder, go to Preferences, and then select “Remove items from the Trash after 30 days”.

Siri on Your MacBook

Siri finally made its way to Mac back in September, and it brought new computer-relevant features. If you have ever wished you could search your MacBook’s files using only your voice instead of any number of clicks, you will now have the option to do so. In addition to searching your file browser, Siri can interface with the Apple Home app and search for specific photos on the internet.

Of course, Siri can still do all of its normal phone functions, like messaging friends, and looking up things on the internet, but now it can do all of those things and more from the comfort of your MacBook.

Device Interconnectivity

Apple has put a whole lot of effort into trying to increase the amount of interconnectivity available between iDevices by improving iCloud. The most important feature to come out of these efforts is the capability of transferring files between your MacBook and other iDevices, such as an iPhone or iPad. However, this is not the only thing Apple has done with their device interconnectivity.

Apple has also rolled out some new security features which improve the usefulness of their smartwatches. If you own a smartwatch you’ll now be able to use it to unlock your MacBook just by approaching it, which will save a few seconds of your life by letting you skip putting in your lockscreen password. Another security feature rolled out with OS Sierra allows you to transfer the last step of Apple Pay authentication to a second Apple device you own to finalize purchases if you ever felt the need to do so.

If none of the three things above compelled you to upgrade to MacOS Sierra for yourself, your opinion may be swayed by knowing that this upgrade is free for anyone who has OS X 10.7.5 or later. Of  course, if you ever needed to get a large quantity MacBook rental, you can expect MacOS Sierra from us as well. Most Christmas presents aren’t free, but you can get your operating system a free update before Christmas.

Improving Contacts In OS X El Capitan

Posted by zduncan | Posted in Computer, OS X | Posted on 27-11-2015

Make Your OS X Contacts BetterHaving trouble with your contacts in Apple’s latest OS X update El Capitan? Trying to get to know your contacts better? With every new operating system Apple releases, there are changes and things you are going to have to tinker with. Here are some helpful tips for improving your contacts in OS X El Capitan.

Add Fields

One of the more useful things you will find in Contacts are Fields. Launch Contacts Preferences and then choose Template. Use the Add Field drop-down menu to add fields to your Contacts. You can add things like Twitter handles for contacts as they aren’t enabled by default. All you have to do is select Twitter in the drop-down list.

Birthday

You can use Contacts in conjunction with Automator in order to automate the sending of birthday greetings via email. This is useful for not only remembering birthdays but also for gaining a little insight into Automator and how it can help you in other ways.

Smart Groups Are The Best

You can create Smart Groups by going to File > New Smart Group. From here you can set up different parameters across the four search fields. You can add additional search filters by pressing the + button and you can use this to also create groups that will automatically be updated. This includes Card Contains Apple or Birthday Is In The Next Week. A majority of users don’t realize that Smart Groups is a thing though it can really help when working on a project or with a group.

Get Rid Of Duplications

Contact Books can easily become overloaded by data that we don’t necessarily need. This includes duplicates of contact addresses. In Contacts go to Card > Link Selected Cards from the Menu. This will minimize everything to a single listing.

Use Contacts Cleaner

Contacts Cleaner, which only costs $4.99 from the Mac App Store, is a fantastic tool that helps you fix problems. It will inform you about errors in your database, including duplicate addresses or bad phone numbers. In addition to that, it also offers to resolve problems for you and allows you to edit records if you want or need to fix problems manually.

Get a Quote on an iPad Rental for Your Business Event from Rentacomputer!

Suggested Contacts

In El Capitan, Mail can detect when you receive new information for a contact, allowing you to update the contact card from inside the mail app. It also identifies whenever a new person makes contact. You can find contact info in your Contacts app, which identifies itself as “Found in Mail”.

Siri

Nickname and Related Name are two fields that are very handy. Enable either of these and you will be able to define your relationship with contacts or give them nicknames. After you’ve assigned roles or names to your key contacts you can use Siri more effectively with your iOS device.

Organization

Try organizing your existing contacts into different groups using File > New Group. Create a name for the group and place the appropriate amount of contacts there. Then you can decide what the groups are for, i.e. friends, colleagues, family, etc… This makes it easier for you to find and manage your contacts.

Check Your Default Account

If you don’t seem to be getting regular updates to your Contacts then you should ensure that you have the correct default account configured across all of your Macs and devices. Open Contacts and go to Preferences > General and look for the lowest item in the list marked as Default Account. Set this to iCloud as this is where the new contacts will be added by default.

Links

Duplicate contacts can cause problems, especially when using multiple email accounts. You could very well see two entries for the same person in your address book, one for Gmail and another for iCloud. To eliminate this press Command and select the cards. Then choose Card > Link Selected Cards from the Menu. This will make them a single listing.

That’s really all there is to it. If you are having problems with your Contacts or you simply want to make them easier to navigate and more organized then follow these tips and you’ll have them all sorted out in no time!

Using Apple’s Magic Trackpad 2 With Desktop Macs

Posted by zduncan | Posted in Computer | Posted on 09-11-2015

Tags: , , ,

0

Trying to use your new Magic Trackpad 2 on your Mac desktop? Well if you’re having trouble then let me be of assistance. The Magic Trackpad 2 requires you to be using a Bluetooth 4.0-enabled Mac desktop with OS X v10.11 or later. Obviously this means that not every Mac is going to be able to take advantage of this peripheral. If you’re wondering about your Mac, most made in 2012 or later and some made in 2011 should be compatible with the Magic Trackpad 2. There are a few notable exceptions, including the late 2011 MacBook Pro models and the late 2011 iMacs. There are reports that you can finagle the trackpad to work on these older devices though Apple doesn’t recommend it.

So, if your Mac is compatible then you should connect the trackpad to the Mac using the Lightning to USB cable. Once you’ve done this, switch the trackpad on and the device should automatically pair with your Mac in Bluetooth Preferences. Once you’re all setup the trackpad works similar to an iPhone, offering you a Force Touch surface that you can use to move the pointer and issue gesture-based commands. In addition to that, the trackpad is also capable of telling the difference between non-imperative hand rest positions and actual commands. You can set up gestures and even create your own optional commands by going to System Preferences > Trackpad.

If you’ve used Force Touch on the latest Apple laptops then you will already have a feel for how this trackpad works. The UI features allow you to access items while reducing the steps it takes to get there. Multitouch is also supported and there are different commands you can issue, including Click, Force Click, Two-Finger Click, Pinch-to-Zoom, and Swipe. Click allows you to press anywhere on the trackpad and utilize it like a mouse click. You can also enable “Tap to Click” in the preferences. Force Click allows you to firmly click anywhere on the trackpad until you feel a deeper click. Use this to have more contextual information about an on-screen item or to access things like word definitions or a preview on Maps. Two-Finger Click allows you to click with two fingers to open shortcut menus. Tapping with two fingers allows you to do the same thing if you have Tap-to-Click enabled. Pinch to zoom works the same as it does on the iPhone. If you swipe left or right with two fingers you will scroll through web pages, documents or iBooks.

In addition to tall of that, the trackpad also offers a lot of tools for getting around apps. If you pinching closed with four or five fingers allows you to open Launchpad to find and launch apps. Swiping left or right with three or four fingers will switch between full-screen apps, and swiping up with three fingers will gain you access to Mission Control. If you go to Help > Mac Help in the finder menu and search for “Trackpad” you can access more information about using the device.

Hopefully, this helps you get through using your trackpad on a Mac. None of these things are really complicated and it should be easy for almost anyone, even those unfamiliar with Mac devices, to jump right in and start using their new Magic Trackpad 2 right out of the box with no hassles.
