It’s almost here! Apple’s next-generation Mac Pro desktop is nearly here, just in time for the holidays. While an exact time frame hasn’t been given just yet, we do have some interesting information.

  • Apple’s Mac Pro will start at $5,999 for the desktop computer.
  • The base model features an 8-core XEON processor, 32GB of RAM, and an AMD Radeon 580X dedicated graphics card.
  • It comes with a 256GB SSD but can go up to 8TB of storage — the same as the new MacBook Pro.
  • Supports up to 6 streams of 8K footage.

This mind-bogglingly fast computer may cost you a lot, but it is geared towards true pros in the development, video, and audio industries. Those who are looking for more affordable, but still professional-quality, gear will be fine with a MacBook Pro, iMac Pro, or even a Mac Mini.

The Mac Pro isn’t the only thing Apple is teasing about releasing before the holiday season. To go along with their ultra-fast computer, Apple is putting out their Pro XDR Display — the best monitor Apple has ever made.

  • The monitor goes for $4,999 with a glossy finish or $5,999 for one with anti-reflective nano-coating.
  • Price is justified, as it is on par with monitors that regularly go for $30,000+.
  • It’s a 32-inch Retina 6K display.
  • Has the ability to switch between landscape and vertical.
  • Doesn’t come with a stand — to pair with one it’s $999, or a mounting adapter for walls is $199.

Both of these exciting new products are scheduled to ship in December. While you’re waiting, why not explore why your business could and should be using Macbook Pro rentals to undertake new projects, use on the go, or increase general productivity.

Apple Announces Not-So-New “New” Mac Pro, Actual New Mac Pro Coming “Late Next Year”

Mac ProApple announced that it was revitalizing its Mac Pro desktop computer line though, despite other reports, there isn’t much changing with them. Apple added the word “new” to the Mac Pro on its website the other day which led some people to complain. That, in turn, made Apple take down the tag.

However, it seems that a new Mac Pro is coming, though not anytime soon. CEO Tim Cook recently announced that more extensive updates to the line will not be happening until “later next year”. Hints about this first hit when nobody was even talking about the devices at WWDC 2012. Once the “new” tag appeared, Andy Hertzfeld, a member of the original Apple Macintosh development team, completely bashed Apple for the skimpy updates.

According to Hertzfeld’s post on his Google Plus account, “The specs for the ‘new’ Mac Pro had hardly changed, except for a tiny, inconsequential processor clock bump. Still no Thunderbolt, still no USB 3.0, no SATA III or RAM speed improvements. It seems like it’s stuck in time in 2010. The only thing that’s still high-end about it is the bloated price.”

Harsh words from Hertzfeld, harsh but true. The Mac Pro runs anywhere from $2,499 to $3,799 depending on which model you choose. However, you can also opt for additional upgrades, driving the price up even higher. Hertzfeld isn’t the only one who is upset by the lack of an actual new Mac Pro, however. Mac Pro customers are expressing their discontent with the computers as well.

Fans of the desktop feel like they are being ignored by Apple, who has constantly been updating its MacBook lineup. A group of Mac Pro owners launched a Facebook page late last month titled “We Want a New Mac Pro”, which pleaded the company for an updated machine. At this point, the page has more than 18,149 “Likes”.

Apparently this page has made it all the way to CEO Tim Cook, who sent an email response to some guy named Franz. The email reads:

Thanks for your email. Our Pro customers like you are really important to us. Although we didn’t have a chance to talk about a new Mac Pro at today’s event, don’t worry as we’re working on something really great for later next year. We also updated the current model today.

We’ve been continuing to update Final Cut Pro X with revolutionary pro features like industry leading multi-cam support and we just updated Aperture with incredible new image adjustment features.

We also announced a MacBook Pro with a Retina Display that is a great solution for many pros.

Even though the “new” Mac Pro is coming, we won’t really see a new one for a long time, but one is coming, I promise. To all Mac Pro users and fans out there, what do you think? Do you feel like Apple is running you through the ringer? Tired of waiting on an actual new Mac Pro?

Apple’s iMac Leads All-in-One PC Market

2011 Apple iMacIn the computer world, portable devices get the most attention and sales without a doubt. However, despite that, all-in-one PCs have quietly become an overwhelming and booming market and Apple’s iMac accounts for almost one-third of all of the all-in-one PCs sold in the industry.

All-in-one desktop computer sales increased 39% in 2010 to a total of 14.5 million units according to research firm DisplaySearch. Among those sales Apple accounted for 32.9%, putting Apple on top as the single largest all-in-one PC maker in the world.

The iMac is Apple’s only all-in-one device and is also the company’s strongest selling desktop computer, even beating out the Mac Mini and the Mac Pro. In the previous quarter for Apple, portable Mac computers represented 74% of Mac sales, though desktop sales still hit an all new record for the company.

Apple has a 33% share of all-in-one desktops, which put it ahead of Lenovo, the second place company. Third place goes to HP with a 21.4% share. HP is planning on releasing a new pair of desktop PCs before next week’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2012.

HP’s HP Omni is an all-in-one desktop that comes with a 27″ screen that is specifically designed for family use. It will go on sale January 8 for a base price of $1,200. In addition to the HP Omni, HP will also be releasing a standard desktop PC aimed at PC gamers known as the Pavilion HPE h9 Phoenix. The Phoenix will have a base price of $1,150.

Bloomberg stated that HP’s decision to highlight new desktops as portables is evidence that the company is trying to stand out for the influx of portable devices destined to dominate CES 2012 next week. The all-in-one PC market is set to see continued growth and DisplaySearch believes that it could reach 23.3 million units by 2014.

Even though the iMac is performing stronger than ever for Apple, the company is suspected to be questioning the future of the more traditional Mac tower computer, the Mac Pro. It has already been reported that Apple is considering doing away with the entire Mac Pro lineup and sparing all the resources devoted to it.
